At Medium, fifty km south of Giza, Huni, the last pharaoh of the Third Dynasty built a large stepped pyramid, and then Esnofru, first pharaoh of the Fourth Dynasty, gave it an aspect of a pyramid itself.

There was an evolution of theological concepts; if the stepped pyramid represented the ladder by which the king´s soul could ascend to heaven, now this heavenly ascension could be done through the narrow sides of a geometric pyramid, a purer form that materialized on the stone the protectors rays of the sun god Re, who met with the king's soul.
